The Parent Network Project funded by the BIG Lottery “Reaching Communities” Fund is now coming to an end. Alex would like to thank everyone who has supported with the project, both practitioners and those parents who have shared their ideas and given their time.

Over the three years the project has been able to support with the development of new and existing groups. It has also offered 12 training events to 196 parents who reported overwhelmingly that these events improved their confidence in their parenting role, and ability to engage with community activities.

The project also delivered a range of information resources and again Alex would like to thank practitioners and parents who have helped with these. These resources include a transformed and re-launched web-site, a revised series of education booklets also available in audio form, local autism / Asperger’s Syndrome directories for Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin. Most recently it has also delivered a DCD and Dyspraxia guide for Telford and “Moving up” guide for young people in Shropshire with autism / Asperger’s syndrome who are moving up to Secondary School. We have also been able to launch a monthly bulletin, offering a summary of local events and activities which is distributed to parents and professionals.

PPS recognizes that these activities on their own cannot address all parents/carers concerns but hopes that the opportunity it has offered will benefit you and your children. Probably the overwhelming benefit of a project such as this is that it has given more opportunity for parents to meet up or to share their ideas. We are now putting together our final report on the project (and thank you to you all for your feedback). Based on this we will be deciding how PPS can best continue to deliver the benefits of the project to parents/carers in Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin.
