Positive Futures

SIBS Groups

A new SIBS group for brothers and sisters of children with disabilities is starting in Oswestry. This is to follow up the group in Bridgnorth which started this summer.  The groups are open to brothers and sisters aged 8 – 12 years who would benefit from being part of a Siblings Group. The groups will be meeting monthly.

The groups are arranged by Harry Cade, the Service Development Officer at the Shropshire Children with Disabilities Team who has secured funding from HSBC Bank to run the groups.   He would also like to start a group in Market Drayton in the near future and would like to hear from parents/carers of children who would be interested.

New Information Pack for autism for Shropshire

With the help of the BIG Lottery Parent Network Project we have put together an information pack on autism for Shropshire - supported by a reading list produced by Autism West Midlands.  To down-load a copy go to our autism page.  There will be a version for Telford & Wrekin shortly.  (12/8/10)

A new group is meeting at the Stepping Stones Centre in Telford on the first Friday of every month (term-time only) from 9.30 - 11.30 am .... more

Parents from the group have recommended Box of Ideas which is a web-site with ideas and resources to help children with co-ordination difficulties.  (3/8/10)

Georgia Carr of Shrewsbury has provided drawings for the PPS Autism Information Pack for Shropshire that is just being completed.   Parents/carers who go to the Spectrum Group in Shrewsbury had been asked to send in drawings.  Telford & Wrekin parents/carers are invited to enter  their child's drawings for a small competition for the new Telford & Wrekin ASD pack - please contact Alex Hiam

Vetting and Barring Scheme scrapped

The Vetting & Barring Scheme for people working and volunteering with children and vulnerable adults has now been scrapped by the government! Face2Face Be-friender Scheme

Parents and Carers Council - new Face2Face project.  The Parents and Carers Council is starting a new Face2Face Project for Shropshire.  This scheme trains parents/carers of children with disabilties to become be-frienders, to work with other families.  For more information go to the Parents and Carers Council web-site. New Siblings Groups - Oswestry and Bridgnorth

Harry Cade, the Shropshire Short Breaks Co-ordinator, is setting up new siblings groups in the Oswestry and Bridgnorth areas. Lifeline Project

A Bereavement Service for children and young people

Lifelines is a project which aims to support children and young people, aged between 5 - 13 years of age, from the traumatising affects of Bereavement and Grief through specialised therapuetic interventions.  Lifelines practitioners respond to children and young people who have been affected by any type of Bereavement, including; Suicide, Murder, Road Traffic Accidents, Illnesses, preparing for Expected Deaths and support for Unexpected Deaths.  Lifelines practitioners offer a wealth of knowledge and expertise in the field of Bereavement and Grief and offer advice to concerned professionals, parents and carers throughout the county.  Click here for their leaflet
