We offer information, advice and support to parents/carers of children with special educational needs across Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin. Go to Who we can help for more details.
You can contact us yourself, most of the people who contact us are parents/carers.
We can help parents/carers with these issues: -
- Special Needs procedures in school
- Statementing and Annual Review
- Exclusions information
- Disability Discrimination.
What are special educational needs?
If a child finds it harder to learn than other children of the same age, or has a disability which makes it difficult to join in, then he/she may have a special education need (SEN). Many children have SEN at some point, such as difficulty with:
- Developmental delay
- Emotional/social/behavioural issues
- Difficulty with sight or hearing
- Physical disability
- Medical or health condition
- Learning in general, or in one area (such as reading)
- Communication
- Movement/co-ordination.
We can help you if there is a clear concern that your child has SEN, even if there is no diagnosis.
We can:
- offer information and advice
- help you with paperwork
- help you put your views to the right people
- help you to prepare for an education meeting or appeal, and support you if available
- contact other organisations, with your permission, to get more information.
We can work with you by:
- telephone or email
- information and advice sessions
- meeting by appointment.
We will not:
- tell you what to do
- discuss you with other people without your permission (unless concerned that you or your child may be at risk)
- assess your child
- offer legal advice (though we can give you information about where to go for this).
How we work explains more about our way of working and our organisation.
